Championing mental health
through golf

We are dedicated to strengthening the mental health of children, families, and communities.
Mental Health Awareness Month each May — highlighted by THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson golf tournament — shines a spotlight on this vital cause, our work extends far beyond a single month. Year-round, we focus on making mental health care accessible to communities worldwide.

Golf provides a unique and powerful backdrop for this mission, blending the core elements of mental well-being: connecting with nature, staying active, and fostering a sense of community.

Nature’s Influence

Spending time in green spaces has been linked to reduced stress levels, improved mood and enhanced overall well-being. A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research found that exposure to green environments, like golf courses, can positively impact mental health by reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

Physical Activity and Mindfulness

Golf involves walking, moderate physical activity, and concentration on each shot. This combination of physical movement and mental focus can promote mindfulness, enhance cognitive function, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine highlighted the mental health benefits of playing golf, citing increased self-esteem and reduced anxiety among golfers.

Social Interaction

Golf often involves social interaction, fostering connections and a sense of community among players. Engaging in social activities, like those common on golf courses, can contribute to improved mental health by reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Stress Reduction

The pace of the game, coupled with the serene and scenic surroundings of many golf courses, can provide a relaxing and stress-reducing environment. This can contribute to decreased levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and overall feelings of relaxation.
